Our Latest Project (After)

Our latest home improvement project is finally complete and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!

I intended to share more “in progress” photos here, but never got around to uploading the pictures I took. Here are some before and after photos of the newly painted exterior of our house and garage to show the difference:

Before photo of the front of our house. This was taken the day of our inspection in October 2010. We didn't get to close and move in until July 2011, when we were finally able to sell our old house.

After photo of the front of our house (May 2012).

To change the colors of our garage (to match our house) the painters used a peel and bond primer and a special kind of paint that would stick the best to the vinyl siding, as well as the doors. We found some beautiful stained glass prairie style light fixtures at Lowes for both sides of our garage door.

A close up of the garage with our new lights at dusk, so you can see the colors of the fascia, soffits, siding and door, as well as the lights lit up. I love how they bring together the colors on our garage.

A close up of one of our new lights that shows the beautiful colors and design in the stained glass.

If anyone in the Chicago area is looking for painters who really know their craft, we highly recommend Veterans Painting & Decorating. We got a number of quotes for this job and felt Veterans best understood the work that needed to be done/the materials to use to accomplish it. The quality of their work exceeded our expectations.

I haven’t stopped by your blog in a very LONG time, but spent a little time this morning visiting the blogs I’ve ignored over the past year or so.

Your home looks BEAUTIFUL!! The color you chose accents the brick so well and your trim color really sets things off! It’s a very comforting, welcoming shade, and your garage light fixtures fit in perfectly!

Your home looks like it should be featured in a magazine!

Isn’t it amazing what a transformation a change of color can make. When we painted the exterior of our house, we barely altered the color but it still “popped” in a new way. And I love those light fixtures!

Yes! That’s awesome that you made your house “pop” when you painted the exterior. I have always feared making such a drastic change, but love how ours turned out! Glad you like the light fixtures too! They seemed just perfect for our house/garage when I found them!

Love the colors you picked! And what a beautiful house, anyway.

I bet it feels really good every time you come home!

Thank you Lori!

It does feel great every time I return home! Sometimes I even go outside just to gaze at it… Reminds me of after Bob and I got engaged and I couldn’t stop looking at the ring on my finger! 🙂
