The Shape of Us

A little while ago I watched my favorite TV show (Parenthood) with my valentine (Bob). One of the last scenes in tonight’s episode featured a montage set to a beautiful song called The Shape of Us by Ian Britt. I had never heard it before, but was instantly moved. The lyrics are simple and yet powerful about the ways we are able to be there for each other during difficult times in our lives.

As I find myself doing more often these days, I searched for the song on iTunes and moments later was able to download and listen to it on my phone. Then I Googled the lyrics, which I will leave you with tonight. I love the idea that we can have “all the strength we need in the shape of us.”

I feel blessed and lucky to feel that way about my husband and my best friend Bob.

That is also my wish for you tonight, or whenever you read this, that “you’ve got all the strength you need,” wherever these words find you and whatever they may mean for you and your loved ones.

The Shape of Us

You’re no longer alone.
We’ve found a space to name our own.
There ain’t no need to fret or fuss.
We’ve got all the strength we need in the shape of us.

And I know you’ve had it tough.
Your road’s been bumpy and rough.
But say goodbye to a world that you once knew.
I have every faith in me and you.

Hold my hand.
Hold my heart.
Let go your fear.
Darling I will always be here.

I never felt quite so at home.
Your sweet caress is the best I’ve known.
Now that I’ve proved to you that I’m worthy of your trust.
Let us build a world in the shape of us.

Chorus.

Darling I will always be here.

I so look forward to each and every post of yours. It is amazing feeling that with each blog, comes a warmth and connection you can feel through your thoughtful sharings. It definitely warms my heart as I’m sure everyone else’s. And how truly moving your last paragraph was. At a perfect time…” you’ve got all the strength you need”. Thank you for those words. LOVE IT!

OK, I know I should leave something heartfelt to your lovely sentiment, but all I can think is “look at your windblown hair”!
You guys look great…happy and content.

Love the lyrics to that song! I need to hurry and get my speakers hooked back up to my computer so that I can have a listen.

This is definitely a crazy universe… This Parenthood episode just aired in Spain (I know, we’re slow ^_^) and, when searching for the lyrics, I stumbled upon your blog. A double treat tonight, the words to a beautiful song and your blog; don’t know which is best yet 😉

Best from Madrid.
