Sibling Snippets: Halloween Costumes

Over the past year Sean has been introducing Abby to one of his favorite movie series — Toy Story. In recent weeks Abby has really gotten into playing with her big brother and his Toy Story themed toys, especially Buzz Lightyear, Woody and her personal favorite, Jessie!

This week the kids and I started talking about possible Halloween costume ideas for them to wear/be. I know it’s *only* August, but we (really I, but they humor me) like to plan ahead for these events in our life!  In light of their shared passion for all things Toy Story, it was a relatively easy choice this year!

Sean knows how fun I think it is for him and his sister’s Halloween costumes to coordinate, as we have managed to pull off the past two years. Sean also seems to have gotten on board with the whole coordinating concept and so I was very happy when he suggested that they be “Woody” and “Jessie!” Though I wasn’t sure exactly how much Abby understood when we first began discussing all of this earlier this week, she definitely seemed excited (most likely because her big brother was so gung ho about it)!

So early this evening, after Sean’s Tae Kwon Do class was over, the kids and I made our way to our local Disney Store, where I had called this morning to confirm they had everything we had in mind, in stock, in their sizes and asked that they hold them for us. Though they don’t have dressing rooms, we were able to try most of the pieces of each of their costumes on there in the store, to be sure they fit (at least well enough). A number of other shoppers who saw what Sean and Abby were doing kept commenting on how adorable they both were and looked as Woody and Jessie (of course I agreed wholeheartedly)!

As an aside, I tend to be a fairly frugal person, especially lately with our recent new home purchase. That said, I am willing to pay for quality and because I am usually so “good” about not over spending, I allow myself to splurge a bit now and then. I especially find myself doing so since Abby was born, as we waited so long to bring another child home to join our family and I dreamed for years of being able to coordinate my kids outfits someday for special events such as Halloween and Christmas.

So I will share that I paid a ridiculous amount of money for Sean and Abby’s costumes this year. But I believe it was worth it, because they look so darn cute in them! Also, they both love to play “dress up” and every year after Halloween, Sean’s and Abby’s old costumes get added to their “pretend play” box and they get to put them on and play in them often until they grow out of them.

After we got home tonight and ate dinner, which Bob had so kindly prepared for us while we were out at the mall shopping for this year’s Halloween costumes, Sean and Abby couldn’t wait to have a “fashion show” and fully try on their costumes (without the tags and all). They were also very excited to show their Daddy what we had found for them today!

Now that I have given you the back story, I am sure you guessed that I took a few snapshots of my own little Woody and Jessie in costume tonight! I know that I am biased, but I think they are the cutest cowboy and cowgirl that I have ever seen!

OMG Kathy that is the cutest thing! Lexi wants to be Jessie as well…so I might have to hit the Disney store. Can I ask…is Abby's costume an actual shirt and chaps? Or is it a one piece? Since we're potty training I don't want the one piece thing I've seen at some stores…Thanks!

Jen – Thank you! 🙂

Amy – Thanks! 🙂 So fun that Lexi wants to be Jessie too! Abby's costume is tow separate pieces. We got it at the Disney Store in our local mall, but you can order online too. It isn't cheap, but seems to be good quality.

St. E – Thank you! 🙂
