Well, easily amused I am & that was the theme for my roomie and I this evening… We were sorta bored, slap happy, & planning her b-day celebration for Friday night, when the subject of our “Welsh friends” arose… We started laughing about what would happen if we called them! Next thing I knew we were down at the BT phone & I was dialing their #… Then asking for Nathan… Then when he answered I was like, “Nathan? Hi! It’s Kathy!… So, Lori and I were wondering when you & Andrew were going to make us dinner?!” It was hilarious and went on from there… I mentioned Lori’s b-day being Fri. & he said he was going to Swansea, Wales to see his family for the weekend! Anyhoo, he said something about them losing our number & that they were watching some concert special on “Wham” that was 13 yrs. old! Hello, can we say random?! Then he was like, “Would Lori like to speak with Andrew?!” And I said, “Why, of course she would!” While she was like, “No, no….” But it was too late — She told him, after some small talk, that she “didn’t really have much to say.” He said he “didn’t have much to say either because he was not prepared!”

Got a letter from Gramma Mite today! As always it was newsy & very entertaining… Ya gotta love her, she’s Dynamite! ☺︎

Got e-mails today from: Deborah, Gwen, Mom & Dad! Deborah shared news of 3 women in Alpha Phi getting lavaliered, 1 got pinned, and one got engaged! Not 1, not 2, not 3, not even 4, but, yes 5 laverleerings this Mon.! I think I was psychic or something when I wondered about if there were any Mon. in here…

Mom & Dad were well & busy doing work/school/& knee therapy related stuff, but more than anything looking forward to their time together at the end of the day… How sweet is that?!

Well, time to wrap it up, cuz it is way past my bedtime (1:28 AM)… Jill & I went to the “Victoria & Albert Museum” today and afterwards I went to Newman House for Fr. Tim’s “Growing in Faith!” It was on “The Fall” (of the angels & man). Very thought provoking & worth the extra trip back to campus…

CHEERS! ☺︎

Note from Present Day Kathy: My paternal grandmother’s name was Helen, but back in high school (when she was a cheerleader) friends nicknamed her “Dynamite” because she was so fun and outgoing. The nickname stuck and many referred to her as Dynamite, instead of Helen, for the rest of her life. Likewise, we ended up calling her Grandma Dynamite, or Grandma “Mite” for short, instead of Grandma Helen.

It do find it fun that the previous Monday I’d been wondering if there had been a “candle lighting” at my sorority, after the weekly Formal Dinner, and not only had there been one, but 5 women had gotten lavaliered/pearled, pinned (with their boyfriend’s fraternity’s pin) or engaged! I’d forgotten that there were actually 3 levels of associated with that ceremony, depending on how serious a relationship was.

I can relate to my parents looking forward to spending time together at the end of the day, as often Bob and I feel the same way, as much or more than having plans to go out and do something. We really enjoy each other’s company/just hanging out at home.

This is one of those entries when I wish I shared more detail about some things, especially my trip to the Victoria & Albert Museum, which I have vague memories of, and Fr. Tim’s “Growing in Faith” talk on “The Fall.” I am curious what I thought was so “very thought provoking” about it.

Reminder: Unless I’ve been given permission to use people’s actual names, in most cases I’ve removed or replaced the names of the real people who were part of my journey/experience there, in effort to protect and respect their identities/privacy in my London Semester Journal entries. I will also not share details that I think and feel are too personal for anyone I interacted with, my loved ones, and me.

Here’s the back story of My London Semester Journals from 1996, including what prompted me to revisit and decide to share them here in 2018. And here’s a list a list of the entries, which I will update as I share them.
