6:00 PM London
Noon E-Town
Picking up where I left off… We went to the Royal London Ballet after dinner & it was wonderful! It was at the Royal Opera House (a beautiful theatre) & the dance company performed 4 numbers. The first was a sort of romance between a man & a woman, but before they could get together they had to interact w/ many other men & women… The second piece had great props & lighting & costumes! The theme, as Alex had a feeling about, was Aids & it was very well portrayed & conveyed through the dance… The third was a duet accompanied by a pianist. The other pieces had a full orchestra. The fourth was an English period piece w/ the core in full costume! The focus was on a young & innocent woman who is raped by a married man, though she loves a young man… Very impressive!
Afterwards I came back to Pembridge & they went to their hotel for we all had to get up early Sat… Alex & Debbie for Alex’s audition for the Royal London Ballet Summer Program (which it looks like she made ☺︎) and me for an ISA excursion I alluded to before, but will have to tell of in more detail later… Oh, when I got back to Pembridge Fri. night, 1/2 the house was in the lounge watching “Rain Man,” so I joined them for a bit to relax before bed. What a great movie it is…
CHEERS! ☺︎

Note from Present Day Kathy: Love the amount of detail I shared in this short entry about each dance we saw at the Royal London Ballet! I can’t for the life of me recall if my friend actually spent the summer in London with the Royal Ballet or not. I’ll have to ask her parents.
Sadly, these entries about my dear friends’ visit are bittersweet, as (not her real name) Alex died in 2014. I appreciate the opportunity to reflect on these special experiences that we shared so long ago, as well as revisiting pictures of us having so much fun together.
Finally, I still think Rain Man is a great movie and can see why 1/2 the house was watching it/I chose to join them for a bit before bed that night.

Reminder: Unless I’ve been given permission to use people’s actual names, in most cases I’ve removed or replaced the names of the real people who were part of my journey/experience there, in effort to protect and respect their identities/privacy in my London Semester Journal entries. I will also not share details that I think and feel are too personal for anyone I interacted with, my loved ones, and me.

Here’s the back story of My London Semester Journals from 1996, including what prompted me to revisit and decide to share them here in 2018. And here’s a list a list of the entries, which I will update as I share them.
