Ready

At 41, I am getting better with acceptance.

Much of the time I am able to appreciate things and people for what and who they are, as opposed to my expectations for them.

Today is the first rehearsal with my fellow Listen To Your Mother (LTYM) 2016 Chicago cast.

It is still surreal to me that I am part of this year’s cast.

I submitted things I’ve written twice before (in 2013 and 2014) and got to audition once (in 2013). I really wanted to be chosen back then and was crushed when it didn’t happen.

This time around I tried to manage my expectations.

I only told a few people I was trying again.

I didn’t share on social media that I was invited to audition, with the piece I submitted, or about my experience auditioning.

I thought that would help me to cope, assuming I didn’t get chosen again.

If less people knew I had put myself out there again, I could deal with the disappointment and move on more easily.

And then I got the email from Melisa and Tracey…

It wasn’t thanking me for my time and encouraging me to try again in the future.

They were inviting me to be part of Chicago’s 2016 LTYM Cast!

I was and continue to be so excited for this!

Today I get to meet the rest of our cast and do our first read through, sharing our pieces, for the show on May 1st.

Today I get to hear their words and be moved by their stories.

I imagine there will be laughter and some tears.

I am truly honored to be part of the 5th cast of Chicago’s LTYM show.

I am ready.
