So why I am writing in verse today?
Because it’s that time of year…
When we drink Shamrock Shakes, eat Irish Soda Bread and write rhymes for Lori’s Limerick Chick Contest!
Though I have enjoyed reading the cleaver prose on her blog in past years, this will be my first time entering one of my own creations.
This was my warm up/first try:
Kathy’s a Domestic Engineer
whose plan for her family was clear.
When life didn’t go her way,
she lived through it to say,
“Now I know it is okay to veer!”
But after writing it, I clicked over to review the parameters of the contest this year and found out that our limericks should feature and link to a blogger. Though technically I am a blogger and I could link to myself with the above attempt, I decided that I would like to have a go at honoring another blogger, one that has had an incredible impact on my life since I began blogging almost 4 years ago.
This person never ceases to amaze me with her writing and all the ways she dreams up to help our ALI Community to connect and to support each other on our journeys through adoption, loss and infertility. Yes, that’s right, I decided to write one for our Stirrup Queen. However, rather than making the focus of my rhyme our deal Mel, instead I chose to highlight a character near and dear to her heart and one who more recently entered many of ours.
Now without further ado, my Limerick Chick entry…
Rachel Goldman is learning to cook.
Her blog posts are so “off the hook!”
Mix divorce with cuisine
and lots in between,
find out more, read Mel’s Life from Scratch book.
Now get your creative juices flowing and head on over to Lori’s blog to find out more about how to enter your own limerick, if you dare. Otherwise, please consider voting for this Limerick Chick when the time comes. Thank you!

What a fabulous entry! I am so glad you're in this year, Kathy!
And a well-deserved tribute.
So glad you linked to the contest and I LOVE your limerick as I just finished reading Life from Scratch last night.
Don't forget to post a review of the book on Amazon if you haven't done so already.
I loved it! How fun!! I'll be voting for yours for sure 🙂
I'm heading over to Life from Scratch right now…
Kathy,
Thank you so much for your blog, I stumbled across it this last weekend while searching through ALI blogs. I am definitely not ready to share my journey with the world of Facebook, etc. However, your Crossing Over post helped inspire me to "cross over" into the world of blog commenter and writer rather from being a lurking reader. Your limerick is wonderful.
Thank you!
Michelle
Lori – Thank you! I am excited to be in this year and I agree that it is a well-deserved tribute. 🙂
IIWIS – Thank you! I saw that you entered too! Fun! I will be over to comment on your creative Limerick momentarily. That's awesome that you just finished Life From Scratch last night!
I posted my review on Amazon a few weeks ago, but am waiting to share more about my thoughts on it here, as I am participating in the book tour that Limerick Lori is hosting and am saving up for then (I will be posting for the book tour on March 3). 🙂
Michelle (from Knock, Knock) – Thank you! 🙂 Life from Scratch is a great read, I highly recommend it and as I shared above, will be posting more thoughts on it next week for a book tour about it.
Michelle (from Embracing) – As I said on your blog (congrats by the way!), thank you for your comment. I appreciate that my “crossing over” inspired you to step out of your comfort zone of lurking and reading, to sharing your experiences and joining in the conversation. It is a HUGE step to decide to start your own blog and I am proud of and happy for you. See you soon!
I LOVE YOU! I am voting for yours.
You can now see how behind I am on my Reader. I so glad the u/s was clear.
Mel – I wanted to surprise you and have you come across it unprompted. But the suspense was killing me when we were tweeting this afternoon. So I decided to give you a nudge. I am glad that you enjoyed it. Rachel and I would greatly appreciate your vote! 😉
Thank you for your kind words. I love you too! I am so glad that my u/s was clear too! 🙂
