Good morning! Today I am 9dp5dt (14 dpo). Not much time left now, before we find out if we get to keep our little miracle from this our 2nd try at IVF#2…
As you may know, from my post last night, I got to bed pretty late. Sean in turn woke up early. I had thought maybe since he got to bed a bit later that he might sleep in and thus I could too. Oh, well! I did “rest my eyes” a lot on the couch for the past few hours while he watched cartoons. Anyway, we have another busy day planned, but a little more time before we need to head out, so I thought I would check in. We are going to visit a friend and her daughter this morning and then later head out to a local mall to meet my two sister-in-laws and their children for our 4th annual “cousins picture” to give my father-in-law for his birthday in September!
When we started this tradition in 2004, there were only three Benson cousins and now there are five, which is pretty cool! Hopefully in next year’s picture, we will be able to add at least one more cousin (Sean’s little brother or sister)… However, I have been saying that to myself every year since we began! 😉 Anyway, it should be cute! Every year we do a theme, in terms of what they wear. The first year the three boys wore Chicago White Sox uniforms. The following year they wore Hawaiian shirts. Last year, with the new addition of our niece (the first Benson granddaughter), we had the three boys wear light blue polo shirts with jeans and she wore a little pink dress.
This year’s theme is red, white and blue, since my father-in-law is very patriotic! I look forward to how it turns out, especially with the addition of Sean’s newest boy cousin, who was born just four weeks ago! Last year when we did the picture, we decided to have the kids have bare feet. At the time, Sean didn’t like going without shoes and especially not without socks. So it was a struggle to get him to go along with the plan. Last night when he asked what we would be doing “next day” as he calls it, I told him about the picture. He in turn asked if we would be “taking shoes and socks off, like last time?!” Too funny, that he remembers that! 😉 I told him we might be and he said okay! 🙂
Well, I need to go take a quick shower and change my Estraderm patch for the last time this cycle, so I can be ready to leave with Sean for our friends’ house soon! Thank you, as always, for your support, encouragement, positive thoughts, sticky vibes and especially your prayers for us and our little embryo! The wait is starting to get to me, but roughly 30 hours from now, we should know, one way or the other…
Today I leave you with the lyrics to one of my new favorites songs, “Time” by Billy Porter. This is one of the songs that Neil and Lacey danced to, a few weeks ago on So You Think You Can Dance. It was choreographed by Mia Michaels, imagining a meeting between herself and her deceased father in Heaven. It was/is absolutely beautiful! I have it saved on the DVR in our bedroom. Over this past week, when I have had some trouble winding down at night, feeling anxious about finding out if we are pregnant, I have found solace and comfort in watching the dance performance and listening to the lyrics of the song, to calm me down before I go to sleep. I also downloaded the song from ITunes and enjoy just listening to it throughout the day for inspiration, as well. So, here are the lyrics:
Time
What is time?
Is it the Autumn leaves that change,
or the snow that floats from the sky.
What is time?
Is it the air we breathe,
or the wings that teach a newborn bird to fly.
Who can tell?
I don’t know.
Will we change?
Will we grow?
What is time?
Is it eternity in Heaven,
or just a hope for peace on Earth.
Where’s the time?
Gone, in the blink of an eye.
But with every blink a birth.
We live, we learn, we love, in time.
We give, we yearn, we grow, in time.
Time for change.
It’s time to care.
It’s not too late, don’t despair.
Reach inside your heart, to find the joy,
the love, to share with all mankind.
For we know, all we have is time.

It’s bittersweet to read this from the future (for Time Warp Tuesday in 2013) and know that in the near future, you will experience disappointment. And in the long run, you will add granddaughters to the mix — also with bittersweetness.
XOXO, my resilient, thoughtful and peace-cultivating friend.

It is bittersweet to know the future, as Lori said, but the past stings as well, doesn’t it? I love the idea of an annual cousins picture, but have to remember that Abby’s the only one of her generation in mine and Ian’s families, although her cousin would have turned seven last month, had he been able to stay with us. I’m sure you always think of Molly during those photo shoots, as we think of Tommy.
