Summer Shed 2013 - Logo - MI - 200 x 200 Welcome to the fourth check-in for the Summer Shed!

Here is the back story about this support group/blog hop for those trying to be accountable for the positive changes we are making in our lives in 2013. After ten weeks of doing the Winter Shed and thirteen doing the Spring Shed, we have moved on to the Summer Shed. Whether you are trying to shed weight, find more balance or let go of something else that is dragging you down in this third season of the New Year… We can do this — together!

Now to report on how I did during week four of the Summer Shed and week twenty-seven in 2013:

1) Healthy Eating

I did well with this.

2) Keeping Fit (Physically/Emotionally/Spiritually) & Shedding Weight

Technically I only exercised 3 out of 7 days this week, but two other days I was very active around the house. This included a long ride with Abby padding in my kayak on a lake in Michigan and a 5K run along a lake in MI, followed by toning and stretching. On Tuesday evening I walked to/from my Modern Dance class and got a great workout while there.

I held steady since last Friday and since Friday, December 28th I am down 11 lbs. (in 27 weeks)! 🙂 At one point this week I was down 0.5 lbs. for a new low and only two pounds from my goal, but then I bounced back up again. I am fine with this as I am bloated from my period and didn’t exercise nearly as much as I usually do this week.

Physical therapy this week was easier, as she returned to doing more visceral organ manipulation. I am still not doing my PT homework nearly often enough, and must change this to aid in my healing.

3) Housekeeping & Purging

Made significant progress here working on our guest room (organizing and purging), which has housed a lot of things from our move two years ago, that never found a place to settle in here. I also did a ton of laundry and other projects around the house.

4) Family, Friends & Faith Focus

We enjoyed another trip to Sister Lakes over the weekend/after the 4th to spend time with Bob’s extended family at their summer cottage there.

After that Bob and Sean left for a week-long Cub Scout overnight camp in Michigan. Abby and I came home. Thanks to technology and smart phones we got to talk with the boys often this week, as well as to receive frequent emails with photos and videos of their adventures at camp (from fishing, to swimming, to archery, riflery and hiking). We really missed them and can’t wait to see them when the get home later today!

My parents graciously watched Abby overnight Monday and Tuesday so I could have a few rare days to myself to catch up on projects around the house. I got a lot done, but not nearly as much as I had hoped/intended. Abby had a wonderful time having her maternal grandparents all to herself and they seemed to also really enjoy having her.

I picked Abby up on Wednesday evening and before heading back to our house, we enjoyed a nice dinner out with my parents. Thursday was pretty laid back here, still trying to work on some projects around the house and Abby relaxing and playing. But we did make it to a local swimming pool for a little while, which Abby loved and stopped by 7-Eleven for free slurpees, as it was 7/11 day!

I continued to work on re-learning how to wear contacts this week, after briefly trying back in Winter 2009-10 and deciding they weren’t for me. It has been going well, especially after I had my follow-up appointment on Monday with my eye doctor and went over some helpful tips, including using eye drops and blinking more often/as needed to keep my eyes from getting to dry while wearing my contacts.

As with the last few weeks, I also spent a lot of time this week preparing for my 20th high school reunion this weekend, since I am on the committee organizing it. I am ready for the planning part to be over, but am really looking forward the actual events and catching up with old friends over the weekend! For fun I also scanned in and shared a lot of pictures from 20 years ago on Facebook this week, including the last day of school, graduation day and prom!

5) Writing & Reading

It was such a busy week that struggled to even get my monthly Time Warp post written, as well as to read and comment on the participants’ blogs. But I managed to do so and really enjoyed the discussion about this month’s theme of “Advice.” It was especially timely with my high school reunion coming up.

As I shared in the intro to my Winter Shed Series…

When I reflect on what has helped me to shed weight, get/stay in shape in the past, prioritize housekeeping tasks and find more balance in my life, accountability is huge! I have kept myself accountable various ways in the past, but this time I am finding doing so publicly here on my blog have been effective.

Once a week, on Fridays or sometime over the weekend, from now until at least mid-September/Fall, I will continue to check in and share how my week has gone in the key areas I am working on. My hope and intention is that knowing I have this self-imposed report card to file will continue to motivate me to stay focused on my goals.

For those who want to join me in this “Summer Shed,” I will add a Linky Tool to my weekly Friday posts and you are welcome to link up to your Summer Shed blog entries, and/or you can comment here on how you are doing from week to week, so we can support and encourage each other, as well as share what works and what doesn’t for each of us when it comes to striving towards our goals.

Please join me and we can cheer each other on as we kick off the third season of 2013 strong (and stay the course long past February 16th)!

We can do this — TOGETHER!
