Perfect Moment Monday: You Never Know

It’s the last Monday of the month which means its time to share our Perfect Moments from January with Lori from Lavender Luz (formerly known as Write Mind Open Heart). I look forward to participating in this blog hop/writing exercise hosted by my friend, and soon to be published author, every month.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of my friends gave her testimony at our Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group this month. As my friend began to speak she talked about how growing up she never thought she had a story worth sharing. She was always Christian and thus didn’t have some big aha moment when she felt called or saved, because she always felt that way. Back then she only thought people with dramatic born again stories, like former drug addicts, prostitutes and famous people (like actors and athletes) had witnesses worth hearing.
Then my friend went on to say how her perspective changed last year when I spoke to our MOPS group and shared the story of my faith journey. She talked about how moved she was and how in that moment she realized that we all have a story to tell and each of our stories are very special and inspiring in our own ways. I got chills hearing my friend share that, something she never told me before and it meant so much to know how my speaking to our MOPS group had inspired her to want to do the same thing.
I thought I knew this woman and her story fairly well. I had an idea about what she might share. So when her testimony went a totally different direction I was surprised, but just as proud and touched as I likely would have been no matter what she had chosen to talk about.
This isn’t the first time that I have had an experience like this and I am grateful every time it happens. It is so true that we never know how our words and actions may help, touch or inspire others. We don’t always get to find out, so when we do it is all the more special and awesome. Definitely a perfect moment for me to remember from this month and New Year!
Lori from Lavender Luz says that “Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.” I love the idea of being mindful of and blogging about perfect moments. Over the years I have often used my blog more to write about things I am struggling with and though I know that is valid and important for me at times, I appreciate the idea of being intentional about also sharing the simple and very special moments in our lives. Many thanks to Lori for this wonderful opportunity to focus on what is right in our life, instead of what is wrong.
I hope that you have a wonderful week and that you are aware of, as well as able to notice, many perfect moments in your own lives.
This is a good reminder that we may not know, in the moment, the effect we are having on those around us. So we should choose our words and actions mindfully, as you did when you spoke to your MOPS group. Look at the ripples you started!
Kathy, your post confirms the fact that we are the biggest advertisers for ourselves.
Even the minutest of our actions in word or deed could make or break someone’s life. So, we’d better tread carefully, isn’t it?
What a wonderful moment! To know in just being you and so open and caring is having such a positive impact on everyone whose life you touch.
What a wonderful gift, to know that your words touched someone else in a way that helped them to find their own! I love Lori’s take on this … that we need to choose our words carefully, because we never know what long-term ripples they may bring.
What a great reminder to advantage of opportunities to let others know when they have had a positive impact on us, because that validation is so valuable and appreciated!
That’s indeed a perfect moment and I’m glad you inspired her to feel confident that she has her story to tell too!
See you again on Friday! 😉
