Perfect Moment Monday: “It Wasn’t Me!”

It’s the fourth Monday of the month which means its time to share our Perfect Moments from June with Lori from Write Mind Open Heart.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s been over a week now since Sean has been out of school for the summer and Abby and I are loving having him home/around most of the day, everyday with us!
Despite the six-year age difference between them, most of the time our children play really well together and it is so fun to watch them interact.
A few days ago Sean decided to teach Abby a silly game that my sister/his Aunt Meg had taught him when he was younger. The gist of it is that you tap someone on their shoulder and when they turn around you say, “it wasn’t me!” I can recall how much Sean used to enjoy playing this with his Aunt Meg and how they would giggle together while “getting” each other.
So one of this month’s perfect moments for me is seeing Sean and Abby laughing together as they play “It Wasn’t Me.”
I also appreciate how much our children are able to learn from each other — thus another take on the phrase “it wasn’t me.”
They even let me capture a round of their game on my phone, that they and I never tire of watching:
Lori from Write Mind Open Heart says that “Perfect Moment Monday is about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.” I love the idea of being mindful of and blogging about perfect moments. Over the years I have often used my blog more to write about things I am struggling with and though I know that is valid and important for me at times, I appreciate the idea of being intentional about also sharing the simple and very special moments in our lives. Many thanks to Lori for this wonderful opportunity to focus on what is right in our life, instead of what is wrong.
I hope that you have a wonderful week and that you are aware of, as well as able to notice, many perfect moments in your own lives.
So cute! It is is also really nice to see that despite the age difference, your kids play together so well. I know a lot of people focus on that perfect 2-year gap so that their kids can be friends. But I think that, aside from their temperaments, a lot of it depends on how much we set things up so that the kids play together. Do you tell your youngest to leave the big kid toys alone, or tell the big kid to include his younger sibling? Do you, as a parent, encourage them to play together or find separate activities? I hope i am able to get my 2 kids to play together, once the second one arrives.
Thank you for your kind words Deborah and I really appreciate your thoughts and questions here about age differences between siblings.
I tend to fall on the inclusive side and encourage my kids to play together as much as possible. Though I do understand that isn’t always possible or appropriate when they have different interests, some of which are better suited to their ages/developmental stages.
Another blogger, It Is What It Is, asked me a while back to do a post about the age difference between my children and I have yet to do it. Reading your comment/questions has inspired me to try to write it sometime soon for both of you, as she is expecting #2 as well after a long struggle with secondary infertility (and there will be a significant age difference between her two kids).
Thanks again for your thoughtful feedback and congrats again on expecting #2!
My son and daughter were playing with each other like this in the car the other day, and I couldn’t help but laugh myself … they were cracking each other up! And the giggles, oh, the giggles … 🙂
Thank you for sharing this moment!
Absolutely adorable! I love seeing siblings playing together, especially when they are a bit apart in age. Makes me remember playing with my little brother. We are 9 years apart.
Finally visiting from Perfect Moment Monday.
