We aren’t the only ones…

who still remember.

It means so much to me and other bereaved parents to know that, especially as more and more time passes since the deaths of our children.

Last night Bob and I were watching the Chicago evening news when we happened to see an amusing story about a couple that got a flat tire on the way to deliver their baby girl at a local hospital. With the help of an Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) employee, they got their tire changed and made it there safely before her birth. Bob and I thought it was a nice coincidence to find out that they named their daughter Molly Marie. You can see the actual news story by clicking on the video below.

My point in telling you this is that I shared about the story on Facebook and our good friend Tina commented that she had seen the news story too and “thought of your Molly Marie right away!” Reading her words and finding out that Bob and I were not the only ones who saw the story and thought of our baby girl meant a lot to me.

Recently a friend of mine (who is a fellow bereaved mother) received a very special letter, at an unexpected and opportune time, from a NICU nurse who cared for her daughter before she died over four years ago. In the the letter the nurse described how beautiful my friend’s baby girl was and all the things she remembered about her unique personality and the time she spent with her. She also shared what an impact my friend’s baby girl had made on her life and how she will never forget her.

I was also told not long ago that the nurse who took care of us and Molly the day she was born and died still has the magnet that we gave her with Molly’s name in the sand on her locker at work and that she has told one of our mutual friends over the years that she still thinks about us and our baby girl.

I am not sure if I have ever shared here that though that nurse wasn’t able to care for us on the day Abby was born, she did stop in to visit us before the c-section to deliver her began. She wanted us to know how happy she was to see us back at the same hospital in labor and delivery under more positive circumstances.

In a world where “life moves pretty fast,” as Ferris Bueller says, it means so much to know that we aren’t the only ones who remember (even though sometimes it may feel that way).

That really means a lot, doesn't it? I know I think of your Molly Marie quite often.
