25 Random Things

Some of you may have seen these “25 Random Things” notes on your friends profiles on Facebook recently. I got “tagged” by a few friends and decided to try it. Since I haven’t felt very inspired to blog much lately, I thought I would share my list with you here:

Facebook Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, copy/paste these directions into a new note and list 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person(s) who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you. If you didn’t get tagged, I’d still love to know more about you, but I am abiding by the original rules and thus only picked 25. To do this, go to “notes” under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) and then click publish.

Feel free to adapt the “rules” accordingly on your blog.

I have really enjoyed reading my family and friend’s fun, interesting and inspiring 25 Things! If you decide to do it on your blog, please post a link in the comment section here, so I can read yours. Here goes mine…

1. I am left handed and so is my husband Bob. What are the odds?

2. Our son Sean is right handed. So we are going to have the same problems helping to teach him to write in the years to come as our right handed parents had trying to teach us.

3. I love ice cream, especially one or two scoops on a sugar cone. My favorite flavors are cinnamon, chocolate and pumpkin.

4. Once, when I was a junior in college studying abroad in England, I was on a weekend trip to Wales with some friends and we stopped at a restaurant for lunch. I ordered a banana split for dessert and ate the entire thing myself! It think it was the first and only time I have ever done that.

5. I have probably been to more places/cities in Europe than I have been in the United States, as after I spent a semester in London in Winter/Spring 1996, I traveled on the Euro Rail for three weeks through England, France, Spain and Italy.

6. My favorite city in Europe was Venice. I loved that there were no cars and everyone either walked or rode in boats to get around. I also really liked the gelato there!

7. I love to go to art museums and visited one in almost every city I went to in Europe. I especially enjoyed seeing original paintings by Monet and Dali.

8. On the Tuesday after Labor Day weekend my senior year in college I went to dinner with one of my roommates and her boyfriend (now husband) at Steak `n Shake. While there I asked them about their relationship and how they knew they were in love. After they told me their story, I commented that I “hoped to find what they have someday.”

9. The next guy I laid eyes on, after dinner when we went back to my roommate’s boyfriend’s apartment, was his roommate/my now husband Bob. We have been together ever since, except for the one month we broke up during the summer of 1997. We are also still friends with the couple who introduced us and our sons are good buddies and close in age.

10. When we met Bob was extremely conservative and I was very liberal in regards to politics. Since then I would say we have both become more moderate, learning to understand and trying to appreciate each other’s point of view. You can imagine the discussions and debates we have had over the past 13 years.

11. 11 is my lucky number! I love on November 11th at 11:11 and 11 seconds to make “the ultimate wish” every year. I try to make use of both of my chances (AM & PM) to do so every year.

12. I believe my older sister Meg taught me to makes wishes at 11:11 along with many other fun and quirky things throughout my life.

13. When we were kids Meg use to tell me she had special powers and could use them to make herself invisible… She would tell me to close my eyes and then Meg would hide behind our washing machine and then put her shoes in various places around our basement. When she told me to open my eyes she would tell me that I would know where she was by where her shoes were. Then she would talk to me for awhile. I was in awe that my big sister could do that!

14. I have a tendency to be gullible.

15. I believe that most people have good intentions and try to give them the benefit of the doubt.

16. I believe that very few things in life are completely black or white. I think that most situations and issues have many shades of gray and can be seen and understood in a variety of ways, especially depending on your point of view and life experience.

17. I was taught growing up that if you work hard and do your best that anything is possible. Unfortunately, I have learned through my life experience that it isn’t always true.

18. Bob and I have been struggling with secondary infertility and pregnancy loss for over 4 ½ years. I never dreamed it would or could be this difficult to have another living child after our incredible son Sean was born healthy in October 2003.

19. I have learned so much about myself and others on our journey trying to have another living child. I have tried to make some good come from every pregnancy loss we have had and especially the short, but very special, life of our daughter Molly.

20. Having grown up with one sister and no brothers, parenting our son Sean has been quite an adventure, but I adore him and am amazed to learn about all things boy.

21. I especially like to play with Legos and build things with Sean!

22. Recently I heard the expression “joy is in the journey” for the first time. I really like the sentiment and am striving to live my life accordingly from now on, instead of being so focused on destinations.

23. One of my favorites TV shows when I was in high school and college (reruns) was Thirtysomething. Its hard for me to believe that I am now actually “thirtysomething.”

24. I believe in signs and have found throughout my life that God has seemed to “talk” to me through others and even through televisions shows (like Thirtysomething), movies and music. There have been times where I have been having a hard day and I would watch an episode of a favorite show and one of the story lines would relate to something I was struggling with in my life. Very cool.

25. One of my favorites prayers is The Serenity Prayer: God grant me the serenity, to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. It has helped me to cope and keep things in perspective during difficult and uncertain times in my life.

Thank you for reading! Feel free to comment. I hope you choose to share 25 things about yourself with me and other of your family/friends, if you haven’t already, and I look forward to reading and learning more about you soon. If you want to do this, consider yourself tagged! 🙂

What a delightful list from a delightful blog buddy. I love Venice too, the food, architecture, the coffee bars, even the dirty pigeons in St.Mark’s Square. Murano is also wonderful. I will have to work on my list of 25 things…I will be in touch. Thank you, Kathy.

I’m an 11 lover too. I had hoped Cason might arrive early and have it for a bday (then I might have believed is a sign too:) but he scooped the 17th instead.
I also was a huge 30somthing fan, we used to call it 30suffering or 30 bummer but we always watched it. I have lots on video (which tells you how old that show was) and I am sad to say I am no longer even a 30something myself. YIKES, how did that happen?? I also found our wedding dance song from the Ellen wedding episode, Ray Charles, “Come Rain or Come Shine”, which given the last few years has really proved prophetic.
Oh and I love pumpkin ice cream and frozen yogurt too:0)

I love getting to know you even better through this list!

I <3 thirtysomething, too.

And now I will always think of you when I notice the clock is at 11:11.

We used to wish at 11:11 too. That was one of the little things I stopped after finding out about the affair. I didn’t see the point in wishing anymore.

Abby and I have had issues with handedness too, when she tries to copy what I’m doing with my left hand, because she’s a righty.

Oh this is so fun to read! Especially that you have travelled Europe (maybe you even went to the city I currently live in…). I really like the “joy is in the journey” quote!

Some beautiful things here … I also love “joy is a journey”!

And there’s a lot of wisdom in #16 and 17 … that sometimes you work hard and things DON’T work the way you expect them to. That’s part of luck, too, I guess. Or design in the universe, on the days I can bring myself to believe that. 🙂
