Molly’s chromosome analysis

A quick post to share some good news, I just got a call from our OB’s office and they had received the results of Molly’s chromosome analysis. The results were normal and confirmed she was a girl. We already knew she was a girl, we had confirmed that from seeing her after she was born, but we were relieved to find out that she had no chromosomal abnormalities.

Early on when we got Molly’s congenital heart defects (CHD) diagnosis we were told that there is often a link between Trisomy 18 and Left Atrial Isomerism (one of the CHD that Molly had). At the time we were offered an amniocentesis to find out if Molly had Trisomy 18 or any other chromosomal abnormalities, but we declined, in part because we had other tests (blood work and ultrasound screenings) done that had come back normal and more so because we knew we wouldn’t change anything about how we proceed with our pregnancy if the results showed she had a chromosomal abnormality.

Anyway, though we are a long way off from deciding if we will try to have another child in the future, it is still nice to know that Molly’s CHD were more likely a fluke than connected to something chromosomal, which does help us to feel a little more confident about possibly trying again someday. We were told by our OB after our c-section that my uterus looked great and he thinks it could handle another pregnancy, after giving it (and the rest of my body and mind) a year of rest and recuperation. So we will see.

Molly’s memorial service on Sunday was awesome and we are so grateful to all those who were with us there in person and to all of you who were there in thought and prayer. It was a beautiful way to have some closure to our journey with Molly, though we always honor our daughter’s memory and will never forget our baby girl. I will post again soon and share more about Molly’s Memorial Service. In the meantime, thank you so much for your messages, emails, cards, gifts, support, thoughts and prayers. They continue to mean so much to Bob, Sean and me. Take care and God bless you and your loved ones.

Love,
Kathy

So glad that you got news to comfort you. It is a big victory to know that the door hasn’t closed on trying for Baby 3 down the line, if that’s what you choose.
