"Still too early…"

I just got off the phone with Dr. Cuneo. She apologized for not calling yesterday. She confirmed everything Mary, the fetal echo tech had told us yesterday, mainly that overall Molly’s heart condition looked the same and that we should return next Wednesday. She described the fluid in Molly’s abdomen to be the “same to a little worse.”

She was glad that I was feeling physically better with having lowered the dosages last week of the medications I am taking. Dr. Cuneo also seemed pleased that it didn’t seem to make Molly’s heart look considerably worse.

When I asked Dr. Cuneo if she was encouraged by this weeks news, she paused and then said, in a not so encouraging voice, it’s really “still too early.” I appreciate where she is coming from and that she truly doesn’t know what is going to happen. She clearly doesn’t want to give us false hope; however it also seems that she doesn’t want up to give up hope either.

I clarified about her status for next Wednesday, since we were told she was going to be out of town. She explained that she was just taking some time off to be with her family, however she would be reachable. So she said it is likely that Mary, the fetal echo tech would be able to transmit the tape recording she makes of Molly’s echo on Wednesday, so Dr. Cuneo could review it at her home and then she would be able to get in contact with us to talk about if we should return the following week or if they and we will have done all we can at that point.

So again, really not much new information, but I did find it reassuring to talk with Dr. Cuneo and confirm what we learned yesterday. There have been a number of occasions over the past few months when Dr. Cuneo has reviewed the tape of Molly’s echoes and then called me to say that things looked worse than she originally thought. Therefore it is always in the back of my mind that she might do that. So I was relieved when we spoke this morning and she didn’t have any surprises (at least bad ones) to share with me.

Thank you for your comments here and your emails. It really helps us to be reminded so often that you all are thinking about and praying so hard for Molly and our family.

I hope that you and yours have a great day and a wonderful weekend! Sean is in a “gym show” tonight at one of our local parks where he takes a weekly sports class and so he and we are excited and gearing up for that!

Take care and God bless.

Even having been through my great loss, I still cannot imagine being in your situation, waiting to hear what’s going to happen to your little girl. 🙁

I’m thinking about you.
