Then Again Maybe We’ll Go with IUI

in IVF #2 (converted to IUI#1)

A little while ago I got a call telling me that we’d be going with “Plan A” and that I should trigger tonight at 9:00 p.m., with the ER scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. I barely had time to digest that information when I received another call telling me that our RE had reviewed the numbers again and changed his mind! He has decided that we should convert this cycle to Intrauterine Insemination (IUI). 🙁 Since we have two “strong” follicles that are 21 and 20.5 and the next biggest are two that are both 16, he is afraid that he might only get two “good” eggs. My estrogen level today was 1654, which the nurse said is great for triggering.

So I will still trigger tonight between 9:00 – 9:30 p.m. Then Bob will drop off samples the next two mornings (Tuesday and Wednesday) at 7:00 a.m. and then I will go in at 8:00 a.m. for the IUIs. It just occurred to me, since the office is a 1/2 hour drive from our house, that maybe I should just bring his samples and wait until time for the IUI (as it takes about an hour for them to process the sperm), to save him the trip. Anyway, I am still in shock right now that this is all happening. I just thought this cycle was moving along so nice and smoothly. 🙁 Anyway, I will post more later tonight or maybe not until tomorrow (after our first of the two IUIs). The nurse did say that it can still work, though the chances are low and that we should have “perfect” timing with the IUI, which should increase our chances! I am having a hard time with this, after all we have been through leading up to this point, but am trying my best to digest it, make peace with it and focus on the positives and hope and pray maybe this will work for us!

(((hugs))) thinking of you. IUI can still work. That is what worked for us (on our 4th and last try). You have perfect timing and 2 follies!

FYI I just drove the sample in and waited in the office (with a good book) until the sperm was ready.

Hoping for the best for you.

Thank you for your encouraging words and for reminding me about your experience Kris! It helps to know about “success stories” right now. 🙂
